(Pre-order ends: 11/30/2020, Monday, 11:59 PST)
In the Filipino language, Kapayapaan, Kalikasan and Kaibigan means Peace, Nature and Friend. To myself and my collaborators we interpret this as “Peace comes from having a relationship with nature.” We wanted to offer a tangible wearable product that encapsulates these values and to celebrate the release of Natural Habitat, a nature-inspired endeavor. We hope this piece resonates with you especially in these times.

On design and production:

I’m honored to partner with talented bay-area designer, Lorenz Ortiz (www.instagram.com/lorenzitro/). One of our inspirations was the character “Ka” which is part of an indigenous Filipino alphabet called the Baybayin. “Ka” prefixes the words Ka-payapaan (peace), Ka-likasan (nature) and Ka-ibigan (friend). It may also be interesting to note that the character has a flowing and organic characteristic that resembles a plant or a vine. Internalizing these concepts directed our design choices. We both wanted to honor the rich culture we came from and the organic flowing nature of our world.

The smiley face logo on the shirt, while ubiquitous, is a reference to 90s rave culture and the genre acid house; which I personally took a lot of sonic inspiration from while creating Natural Habitat. All the symbols combined (i.e., the peace sign, leaves and smiley face) reference the cyclical and interconnected nature of humanity and of nature. The forest green tie-dye base was picked to match the lush tropical foliage common in the geographic location of the Philippines.

We value the small and the tiny and so decided to only offer 50 of these pieces. These are lovingly screen printed by hand in sunny Los Angeles by my long-time collaborator Awlsco (www.instagram.com/awlsco/)

A few other notes:

The 3D renders are presented as approximations and a visual aid. The final product may look a little different but will be very close to what you see.

With the holiday season upon us, shipping may be affected as a result. We can’t guarantee that this will arrive before Christmas, but we still hope that you order these pieces as gifts to loved ones who might resonate with the message.

Lastly, this item is shipping from a different location from all other Natural Habitat offerings and can’t be combined with other orders. Thank you for understanding.

Much love and thank you so much for your support ~ Mark
